Noble, Oxford Elementary Communities Celebrate Juneteenth

June 23, 2023 -- Noble and Oxford Elementary Community Learning Centers kicked off the Juneteenth weekend with an amazing event June 16.

More than 300 people from the Noble and Oxford communities visited Oxford Elementary to attend the celebration. The Noble Neighborhood Library Branch provided a historic storyteller who detailed the journey from Africa to the United States. Mojuba African Dance performed with Oxford students and Universal Love followed with a hip-hop dance workshop.

Local vendors Taste of Cleveland, BO’s Smokey Sticks, and Zanzibar provided food. Ice cones were provided by Heights Tropical Snow and face painting was provided by Colorful Creations by Carla. Decorations were provided by K. Rose Designs.

Also in attendance was MetroHealth to share the benefits of registering for services, and Lake Erie Ink discussed their upcoming summer camps.

The event was an effort of the District’s Community Learning Centers, which work to form partnerships with local organizations to support schools and the community according to their direct needs.

The pillars of the Community Learning Centers are integrated student support, expanded and enriched learning time and opportunities, active family and community engagement, and collaborative leadership and practices.

Family events and programming are open to the community, whether or not a person has a child currently enrolled at Noble or Oxford.
