SUMMARY-City of Cleveland Heights Planning Commission Meeting

On January 14, 2015, representatives from the Cleveland Heights –University Heights City Schools presented the latest plans for the re-building of Heights High School to the City of Cleveland Heights Planning Commission. The presentation included floor plans, site plans, building elevations, and the results of a traffic study conducted by the Environmental Design Group, a traffic engineering firm located in Akron, Ohio. Representatives for the school district included, Stephen Shergalis, the District’s Director of Business Services, Gary Balog, Project Architect from BSHM Architects, Steve Zannoni, Owners Representative from Project Management Consultants and Teresa Dalton from the Environmental Design Group.

Commission members acknowledged the enormous responsibilities of such a significant project, and were generally pleased with the designs developed to date. Areas of focus included traffic, parking, and the impact of the new site plan on surrounding neighbors and businesses. This presentation was considered a preliminary review and no action was taken.

Commission members recommended that the District team meet with the City Planning staff and Police Department to address the traffic and parking issues, and to continue the process of working out the necessary details that will be needed by Commission members before they can approve the project. Mr. Shergalis expressed his appreciation for the Commission members input and all the help provided by the City’s Planning Department staff. The District intends to bring the project back to the planning Commission at its March 11, 2015 meeting.
