Vince Nemeth is a Recipient of the JRFH/HFH Grant

Feb. 26, 2016 -- Vince Nemeth, a physical education teacher at Roxboro Elementary School, is receiving one of 10 national Jump Rope for Heart/ Hoops for Heart (JRFH/HFH) grants from SHAPE America - Society of Health and Physical Educators. Nemeth will be recognized on Thursday, April 7 during the National Convention and Expo in Minneapolis. Nemeth will kick off his JRFH celebrations on February 23 as part of the American Heart Month. His goal is to raise more than his mark last year ($10,684).

Recipients of the JRFH/HFH grant are recognized for the passion and commitment for physical education and the JRFH/HFH program. This program promotes physical education and provides children with knowledge of heart disease and stroke. The money raised goes towards cardiovascular disease and stroke research and health education.

Nemeth is holding his first JRFH event, where his students will celebrate placing first out of 168 schools in the Eastern region, raising more than $10,000. He says the program is a natural fit for Roxboro’s mission as an International Baccalaureate World School(IB). Both JRFH and IB highlight his students’ commitment, confidence and empathy towards others.

When Nemeth introduced the program to the students, he immediately saw their excitement. The students became excellent jumpers as they mastered a number of jumps that lead them to a skills test which meets the state’s PE standards.

Nemeth will receive a US Games gift certificate to enhance his PE program, a free one-year membership to SHAPE America as well as expenses paid for travel and registration to the national convention.
