Video: Heights High Singers Perform Virtually

May 22, 2020 -- The Heights High Singers chorus performed one of their traditional songs, Let it be Me with each student performing at home and Vocal Music Director Jesse Lange compiling the voices into a virtual choir.

The musicians include current students and alumni, Mr. Lange and Assistant Director Kim Sudduth.

This song has been the traditional alumni piece for many years. When it is performed at concerts, vocal music alumni are invited to join the students on stage.

“I wanted the seniors to have something to experience at the end of their time in the VMD,” said Mr. Lange. “And I wanted the underclassmen to sing with them one more time.”

The song has been used as an alumni song for many reasons. “It sends a great message, it touches people and it is beautiful,” he continued.

For Mr. Lange, the process of acquiring the right equipment during the lockdown, learning how to teach remotely, record, edit the voices and get the high school and college students to record their parts was not easy.

“It was a labor of love!” he said. “Seeing the current students and alumni come together was really special. I miss my students, I miss the staff, I miss the alumni, I miss the special bond we have through singing.”

“I hope the video helps everyone feel more connected and less lost, and keeps the music alive in our hearts.”

The piece was debuted at the May 20 Reaching Heights Virtual Spelling Bee.
