May 19, 2020 -- A note from Jenna Tucker, General & Vocal Music Teacher at Roxboro Elementary School:
“My amazing 4th & 5th grade Roxboro Elementary music students were just a day away from stage rehearsals when schools closed here in Ohio.
We all support the need for safety even if we lose these shared experiences, but my students and I were devastated that we couldn't perform this song live for our community.
We worked together all school year to write and create a musical complete with characters, plot, scenery, instrumental accompaniment, and even an original song or two. This arrangement of, "Fly Away Home" by Pinkzebra was intended to be our big finale in a show about how life is about enjoying the journey, not always the destination.
The title certainly has a layered meaning now.
I'm so grateful that my students have participated in this project to honor all our hard work. It has been very therapeutic to put this together, and it shows how resilient and talented these amazing students are.
When we shared this publicly, our neighborhood response was so positive, and the students should be so proud! They would be so excited to see their hard work featured by the district website.”
