Senior is Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist

Sept. 11, 2019 -- Heights High senior Rohan Bruce was named a 2019 National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist in the 2019 competition and has the opportunity to advance to the Finalist level and qualify for the National Merit Scholarship.

Rohan qualified for the award because of her performance on the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. The SAT is a college entrance test.

Nationally, 16,000 Semifinalists were recognized, representing less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.

More than 1.5 million students entered the National Merit Scholarship qualifying competition by taking the PSAT test in the fall of their junior year.

Rohan was a member of the Academic Challenge team that won their TV round last spring and is active in the theater department. She has had a leading or strong supporting role in all of the theater productions and this year she has a supporting role in the musical, Damn Yankees. I love acting because I like taking the words of another writer and giving them my voice and perspective,” she said.

She plans to attend college next year and is applying to several schools, including Butler University in Indiana, the University of Pittsburg in Pennsylvania and the University of Richmond in Virginia.
