A Week 1 Message From Superintendent Kirby

August 23, 2019
Dear CH-UH families,

I hope you and your students had a productive and enjoyable first week back at school. I had a great time visiting each building this week and getting to see our scholars and educators in action. I watched principals and teachers welcome back their students with music and (literal) red carpets. I saw middle schoolers enter their renovated buildings with wide eyes and even wider smiles. And perhaps no one in Tiger Nation is more excited than the kindergartner I met at Boulevard, donning her favorite dress and shoes, who couldn’t wait to tell me all about what she’s looking forward to learning and doing at her new school.

All of this has left me feeling charged up and ready for a fantastic year. The energy we exude can truly affect how others around us feel. I encourage you to remember this when you’re recapping the school day with your children, looking through homework assignments, or discussing goals for the new year. Our positive attitudes about education can really inspire our students to achieve excellence and success in their school careers.

During the month of August, I’ve had some wonderful conversations with many parents and community members at our public meet-and-greet events around town. We’ve got several more planned for September. If you can, please attend one of these events and share with me your perspectives on the future of our schools. I also invite you to take a look at the entry plan I’ve created, outlining my priorities for my first 100 days here in CH-UH. And, be sure to check chuh.org for details on the upcoming curriculum nights, middle school grand opening celebrations, Heights Family Academy, and more.

Whether you’ve got a little one entering kindergarten, a senior with their eye on graduation in only months, or scholars in between, it’s always bittersweet to watch your children gain that extra piece of independence that comes with each new school year. Your child’s teachers and the support staff around them are here to help guide them and do everything they can to ensure a successful year for all.

Sincerely,
Liz Kirby
