Fairfax Hosting 25th Annual Cabaret Show January 31

Jan. 21, 2020 -- Imagine the following acts all performing on one stage in one night: ten and eleven year old boys playing high school level pieces on the violin and cello, groups of third grade girls singing and dancing to the latest pop song, a favorite male lunch aide singing a solo, a level five gymnast tumbling across the floor, a family band and, of course, a grand finale featuring 20 teachers dancing in unison.

There’s nowhere else this could happen than at the Fairfax Cabaret; a 25-year tradition that brings together the bravest and most talented students, teachers, and parents of Fairfax School. These acts will grace the Heights High stage on Friday, January 31, 2020.

This community event is open to all and includes an a la carte dinner by Fawaky Burst in the high school cafeteria starting at 6:00 p.m. PTA members, who are organizing the evening’s festivities, encourage people to arrive early to get a good parking spot and enjoy dinner since there’s a home basketball game on the opposite side of the building starting at 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the 24 talent acts, coordinated by music teacher Tamar Gray, the Cabaret includes a bake sale, a raffle featuring 16 baskets, a prize wheel, and a 50-50 raffle that PTA leader Sara Forsythe predicts will pay out $1000. Raffle tickets can be purchased from any Fairfax parent on the night of the cabaret or ahead of time. Winners do not need to be present at the event to win.

Mrs. Gray, who works with each individual act to ensure they’re stage-ready, is especially excited about the kindergartners joining in. “Some surprisingly young acts will be stand-outs this year,” she said.

The Cabaret is co-chaired by Katrina Heintzen, who managed concert halls for the Cleveland Institute of Music for eleven years, and Jae Cleveland, a new parent with a background in event planning who eagerly jumped on board.

Spanish teacher Margaret McPhee and media ancillary Michael Spears will MC the event, with the help of student announcers and special guest appearances by stand-up comedian—and Heights High grad—Bryan Blockson.

Tickets are available at the door or at showtix4u.com. You won't want to miss Fairfax School’s—and Tiger Nation’s—night to shine.
