Heights Alum Shelton Gibson Drafted By Eagles

Shelton Gibson

May 3, 2017 -- Former Heights High football standout Shelton Gibson ('13) was drafted into the NFL by the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.

Gibson, who starred in college at West Virginia University, was drafted by the Eagles in the fifth round, the 166th player taken overall in the seven-round draft.

Gibson graduated from Heights in 2013 after a stellar career on the gridiron and on the track. He played three seasons as a wide receiver for Heights and finished with 36 total touchdowns. He was one of the most sought-after recruits in 2013, ultimately landing with the Mountaineers.

Gibson sat out his first season at WVU as a redshirt and then played three seasons before leaving early for the NFL Draft. He finished his college career with 84 receptions for 1,898 yards and 17 touchdowns, earning first team All-Big 12 honors as a senior last fall.

During his time in the CH-UH school district, Gibson attended Boulevard Elementary and Roxboro Middle.

Gibson joins an Eagles team that went 7-9 in 2016. Philadelphia already features one Heights High alum in offensive lineman Jason Kelce ('06), who is a six-year starter for the Eagles.

Jason's younger brother Travis Kelce ('08) is one of the top tight ends in the NFL, playing for the Kansas City Chiefs.
