National Principals Month - Get to Know Mr. Dubsky, Dr. Jenkins, & Ms. Taylor

Oct. 16, 2020 -- October is National Principals Month, and to celebrate, we're sharing what makes our principals so special. Today, we get to know Mr. Dubsky (Heights High), Dr. Jenkins (Boulevard Elementary), and Ms. Taylor (Oxford Elementary).

James (Jamie) Dubsky
Heights High 9th Grade

Where are you from originally, and where did you attend school?
I’m from the Cleveland area. I went to Chanel High School and John Carroll University.

Where were you working/what were you doing before you became a school principal in CH-UH?
I was a strength and conditioning coach. I worked 2 years with the Cleveland Indians, 2 with the Texas Rangers, and 5 years independently with a local company that specialized in NFL combine training.

Why do you love being a school principal?
I like that I get to work with an entire grade level and get to know ALL of the students.

What was your dream job growing up?
A strength and conditioning coach for a professional team.

What's your favorite food?
I like spicy food especially Mexican food!

Tell us one fun fact about yourself - a talent, hobby, or anything that makes you unique!
I have a great wife who teaches third grade special education in another school district. I have three little boys ages 6,4, and 2.

Michael Jenkins
Boulevard Elementary School

Where are you from originally, and where did you attend school?
I’m from Long Island, New York. I’ve attended the State University of New York at Buffalo, University of Houston, Cleveland State University, and Concordia.

Where were you working/what were you doing before you became a school principal in CH-UH?
I was a principal and RTI Coordinator for Port Clinton City Schools.

What's your favorite thing about the school you lead?
I love the spirit of the staff and their drive to do what is best for our students.

What was your dream job growing up?
I had bunches, but most notably I wanted to be either a marine biologist or park ranger. And there was artist, which is what most people thought I would be. My “problem" was that I wanted to be a lot of different things!

What's your favorite food?
Pizza (NY style of course).

Tell us one fun fact about yourself - a talent, hobby, or anything that makes you unique!
My hobbies change a bit, but mainly I like to restore cars and motorcycles, collect antiques, play golf, write, and illustrate.

Jacquelyn Taylor
Oxford Elementary School

Where are you from originally, and where did you attend school?
I’m from Euclid, Ohio. I attended Lake Catholic High School and John Carroll University.

Where were you working/what were you doing before you became a school principal in CH-UH?
I was in public relations prior to becoming a teacher. I started my teaching career in Cleveland Heights at Oxford Elementary School.

Why do you love being a school principal/leader?
I love the community and the staff. It is nice to come back to the place where I started my career so many years ago. There are many families here that were here when I started teaching.

What was your dream job growing up?
I always wanted to be a teacher.

What's your favorite food?
I love spaghetti.
