Dear CH-UH Families,
I hope you and your children have had a great week of learning. I’m writing with updates on our return to school, progress reports, and other important information.
Week 2 survey results: Families & Students
Two weeks into the school year, the District shared surveys with our families and students in order to learn more about what we can improve upon and what is going well in remote learning during the first quarter. I’d like to share some common threads with you.
Families
- The teachers have been phenomenal. Professional, patient and skillful.
- There’s too much homework, especially for younger students.
- The schedules have been consistent and well-organized.
- Socialization options are needed, along with less screen time.
Students
- Some students have enjoyed being at home, while others report that they want to go back to school as soon as possible.
- Asynchronous and synchronous learning has allowed for flexibility.
- Attendance isn’t always consistent, especially on asynchronous days.
This input has been shared with school and district leaders to help form their decision-making moving forward. I thank you again for taking the time to offer your thoughts regarding your children’s remote education experience.
Next steps for Quarter 2
Reopening planning committees have reconvened to discuss all aspects of Quarter 2 instruction. After reviewing information and county risk level status with the Board of Education and the reopening planning committees, along with input from parents (survey coming soon), the District plans to make a decision on the instructional plans for Quarter 2 and notify families during the week of October 19. We'll move forward with the chosen instructional model beginning November 4.

October 20 Board Work Session
During the Board meeting on Tuesday, October 20, we will provide updates on various components of the start of school, including remote learning, technology, special education services, and more. Watch the meeting live on our

Preschool
Our Preschool & Pre-K programs will be participating in the Virtual Fathers Walk on October 15 at 9 a.m. The virtual event is sponsored by WKYC Studios and will be hosted by the Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative, Passages and the Healthy Fathering Collaborative.

In partnership with Family Connections, the Early Childhood Program is hosting Start School Strong, Parent to Parent Hangout for our Preschool/Pre-K and Kindergarten families. Join us on October 13, 20, and 27 to share, learn, and find support. Register for the Hangout

Food service - meals now available for all children, and on weekends
Thanks to a waiver extension from the USDA, the District is now able to serve meals to all children through December 31, 2020. Weekend meals will also be provided during Friday pickups. View

Reporting positive COVID-19 cases in children
As a reminder, the Ohio Department of Health is asking that parents/guardians report positive COVID-19 cases for their children. Should your child test positive for COVID-19, you may report this to his or her school when reporting your child absent, or you may call or email your school principal.
Your child’s name will not be made public or shared with anyone outside of a need-to-know basis. Notifications sent to the District will be as general as possible in order to protect students’ privacy. The goal is to help our health department conduct timely, accurate contact tracing.
Early voting/Issue 69
Early voting began on Tuesday at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, and officials began sending out Vote-by-Mail ballots to voters who have requested them. You can request a Vote-by-Mail ballot and track your ballot's every move at
www.443Vote.us.
On the ballot in November is Issue 69, the CH-UH City School District's additional operating levy. The 4.8-mill levy would cost a homeowner approximately $168 a year, or $14 a month, per $100,000 in home value. Read more about the

Farmers to Families returns to CH-UH
The Farmers to Families program
has returned to CH-UH in partnership with Produce Alliance and the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland. Families in need can receive a 35-pound box of mixed produce, dairy, cooked meats, and milk at the new distribution site, 2181 Miramar Road (the Wiley Campus). Boxes will be distributed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until supplies run out) on October 15, 22 and 29.
Census deadline now October 31
The deadline to complete the 2020 U.S. Census is now October 31. The Census happens every 10 years and shapes funding, representation, and more for our community. To complete the Census without having in-person contact, visit
my2020census.gov or call 1-844-330-2020. It’s quick, easy, and extremely important to our community’s future.
