Information on Third Grade Gifted Screening

Oct. 22, 2020 -- Per state testing policy, current third grade students are eligible for cognitive screening to determine if they may be gifted. Students who take the screening and are identified as gifted are entitled to receive gifted services. This screening must take place no later than October 31, 2020.

The whole grade screening was to have taken place in the Spring of last year when these students were in second grade; however, the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent closing of in-person school prohibited this.

The gifted screening process for third grade testing will be conducted as an individual assessment that is given in a secured and sanitized testing room at the Board of Education. COVID-19 protocols will be followed.

Appointments will be scheduled individually by the district tester, Kathy Craig, who is a Gifted Intervention Specialist.

In order to move forward with the third grade screening, families should respond to the choices offered in this letter by emailing Toia-Robinson Snowden at [email protected] by October 27. This letter has also been sent via email and text message to third grade families.
