Staff Member Tests Positive For COVID-19; Fairfax Building Closed 10/22, 10/23

October 21, 2020

This afternoon, the District learned of a recent confirmed case of COVID-19 in a Fairfax Elementary School staff member. This staff member does not interact with students and was last in the school building on October 14.

Because the staff member had been working regularly throughout the school building, the Fairfax building will be closed on Thursday 10/22 and Friday 10/23 as a precaution. Disinfecting of the entire building will be completed on Thursday using the Clorox 360 machine, and additional cleaning will take place on Friday. Fairfax students who receive in-person services will instead attend school remotely for the full school days; the parents of these students have been contacted. School meals will be distributed from a school bus on the Fairfax grounds. Remote learning will take place as usual.

We are working closely with the Cuyahoga County Health Department and anyone identified as a close contact will be notified by the health department as part of COVID-19 investigation.

If CCBH contacts you as part of a COVID-19 investigation, please cooperate fully to ensure the safety and health of our entire community. It is also important that we show kindness and understanding to those who may be identified as a case of COVID-19 or as a close contact.

Spread of COVID-19 is currently happening in our community. This is why it is so important for all students and staff to adhere to the key public health prevention strategies to reduce the chance for transmission of COVID-19, including:
  • Wearing a face mask
  • Social distancing of at least 6 feet
  • Frequent hand washing with soap and water
  • Hand sanitizing when soap and water are not available
  • Staying home when you do not feel well
  • Disinfecting high-touch surfaces regularly
  • Not sharing food, drinks, cups and utensils
  • Avoiding large gatherings of 10 or more people
If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Paul Lombardo, Assistant Superintendent of HR & Operations, at [email protected]/216-320-2030 or the Cuyahoga County Health Department at 216-201-2000. Thank you for helping to keep people safe and to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and school.
