Message to Families From Superintendent Kirby - February 6, 2021

February 6, 2021

Dear CH-UH Families,

Yesterday was a big day in Tiger Nation, as we welcomed our staff back to their school buildings and offices. Assistant Superintendent Felisha Gould and I visited the schools and saw lots of activity and friends we’ve missed. Many staff members expressed how excited they are to welcome back their students. They are all working hard to prepare the schools for safe, engaging learning, and I am very proud and thankful for the team efforts that have made our return to in-person learning and working possible.

Model selection surveys
Thank you for submitting your model selection surveys for your children. Our support staff are in the process of recording the data and developing schedules for staff. If you have not yet submitted your form, please continue to work with your child’s school principal and teachers. They are happy and able to help you decide on the best learning model for your child. I also wish to thank the support staff who have been busy making phone calls to families this past week to ensure that each family’s response is recorded.

Each school is in the process of sending their orientation schedule for students to prepare them for the transition to hybrid instruction. Please reach out to your child’s principal with any additional questions.

School staff vaccine updates
We learned this week that our staff will receive their first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on the morning of Wednesday, February 17. The second dose is scheduled for Wednesday, March 10. We are continuing to work with the ESC in getting our staff who wish to receive the vaccine registered and scheduled.

Students with low-incidence disabilities return Monday
The District will resume in-person learning for students in MD/AU self-contained classes beginning the week of February 8. A memo containing the specific information was shared with families on January 29 and parent information meetings were held last week. Please reach out to Karen Liddell-Anderson at [email protected] with any additional questions.

COVID-19 case summary for the week of February 1
Since Monday, February 1, we have received reports of two staff members and two students testing positive for COVID-19. Of these cases, one of the staff members and one of the students had been working/learning remotely. These cases are reflected on the District’s case reporting dashboard. The county remains in Level 3 “red” alert level status in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. The data released by the Ohio Department of Health on Thursday show that two of the seven indicators are currently met.

When staff and students who have been in District buildings test positive for COVID-19, we send notices to the families whose children attend the affected schools and to the staff members of those schools. We also post the notices on chuh.org and our District app, available for Android and iPhone.

Enjoy your weekend and stay safe. I look forward to connecting with you again soon.

Sincerely,
Superintendent Kirby
