Board of Education Meeting Summary - September 3, 2024

Sept. 4, 2024 -- At the monthly regular Board of Education meeting on September 3, the Board and Superintendent Kirby recognized the Heights High students and MetroHealth staff who attended the National School-Based Health Care Conference, the Board resolved to oppose Ohio HB 556, and CFO Scott Gainer delivered his 3 Things Report.

Meeting Overview
  • The Board voted to approve a resolution opposing Ohio House Bill 556. HB 556 would allow school librarians and other teachers to be charged with felonies for promoting or providing “obscene” material, but does not define “obscene” or “obscenity”.
  • Superintendent Liz Kirby shared updates on the past month’s work within the five goals of the District’s Strategic Plan.
  • Superintendent Liz Kirby shared a draft plan for managing future hot weather days in the District.
  • Chief Financial Officer Scott Gainer delivered his “3 Things” report, a monthly initiative to educate the community on school funding. The 3 Things for September were:
