Cross Country Team to Run 200 Miles in 24 Hours, August 7-8

Aug. 2, 2021 -- Can the Heights High Cross Country Team run 200 miles in 24 hours?

Heights High’s coed Cross Country team will gather at the high school track for a 24-Hour Relay, with one student running one mile at a time starting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7 until 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 8.

Each participating student, including members of the Track team, will run anywhere from 1 to 24 miles, with most completing more than 10 miles in an attempt to raise at least $10,000 for the Cleveland Heights Running Boosters. The Cleveland Heights Running Boosters is a group of parents and coaches who support the cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track & field teams at the youth, middle school, and high school levels in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District. Raised funds are used to purchase warm-up gear, pay for overnight travel to competitive out-of-town meets, cover fees for the indoor club season, and supplement stipends for specialty coaches (speed, strength, jumps, throws, hurdles, etc).

To sponsor a runner for an hour or any amount of time, please visit my.cheddarup.com/c/heightsruns. You can also sign up to run a mile alongside one of the student runners or Heights High science teacher and track Coach Stephanie Buda who will be running a full marathon – 104 ½ laps around the track.

Community members are encouraged to stop by the high school track and cheer the team on. Runners will especially need some encouragement during their final hour, between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 8.
