Dear CH-UH Families,
Today, our staff engaged in a rich and informative Professional Development Day. Subject matter experts composed of CH-UH educators and community partners led sessions on many topics, including co-teaching, special education, and equity. Our Equity Training Team led sessions for seven different employee groups today, helping us to fulfill the District’s equity goal of providing our staff with the opportunity to understand the impact of their identity on themselves and others.
Our elementary schools kicked off spring parent-teacher conferences this week. I thank our elementary families for participating in these important meetings, and I hope that you feel empowered to help your children succeed in both the in-person and remote environments.
In-person Board meetings
On February 16, the Board of Education began meeting in person once again, holding the monthly work session. Board meetings take place in the Heights High auditorium, where members sit socially-distanced on the stage. The next meeting is on Tuesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Members of the community and District employees are welcome to attend. Those wishing to offer public comment at regular meetings must do so in-person. Commenters will use a no-touch microphone that is wired into the stage. Our health & safety protocols will be in place, including mask wearing and social distancing (auditorium seats are marked off accordingly). The meetings will still be streamed live on our District YouTube page and conducted via electronic technology subject to Ohio law.
Bringing Chromebooks to school
K-12 students learning in-person should bring their district-issued Chromebooks to school on their assigned days. The devices should be completely charged each night and carried with students in their bookbags. Technicians are in the process of visiting classrooms and adding protective cases to the Chromebooks.
For all learners, if your student does not yet have a district Chromebook, or if the Chromebook needs repairs, the IT staff can help. They are open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm, and you do not need an appointment.
Ohio Online
Students and families working through the Ohio Online program are reminded to check in with their teacher weekly in order to meet their attendance requirements and discuss course progress. These check in times are critical for students to attend as they are the opportunities to connect with their teachers about where students are in their learning, clarify any misunderstandings, make sure that students are moving towards success and celebrate student accomplishments.
COVID-19 case summary for the week of February 22
Since Monday, February 22, we have received reports of zero staff members and 1 student testing positive for COVID-19. The student had been learning remotely. This case is reflected on the District’s case reporting dashboard. The county remains in Level 3 “red” alert level status in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. The data released by the Ohio Department of Health on Thursday show that three of the seven indicators are currently met. The new cases per capita (Indicator 1) have been decreasing for the past six weeks. When staff and students who have been in District buildings test positive for COVID-19, we send notices to the families whose children attend the affected schools and to the staff members of those schools. Finally, I wish the best of luck to the four members of our boys swim team
competing in the state championship this Saturday! This will mark the first time that Heights swimmers compete in the state championship since 2003. I’m so proud of them and I know we will all be cheering them on together. GO Tigers!
