CH-UH Accepting Applications For Kindergarten Readiness Task Force

May 3, 2021 -- The Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District is accepting applications for its new Kindergarten Readiness Task Force.

The mission of the Kindergarten Readiness Task Force is to explore researched and evidenced based practices that support Kindergarten Readiness with a focus on early literacy and social emotional learning. The task force will meet once a month beginning in May 2021. The task force will submit a quarterly report to the Board of Education. All task force meetings will be open to the public, and the Superintendent, or her designee, will lead the meetings and establish all agendas.

MISSION: The Kindergarten Readiness Task Force will explore researched and evidenced based practices that support Kindergarten Readiness with a focus on early literacy and social emotional learning.  

CREATION: This task force shall be established pursuant to Board Policy 9140.01 - Citizen Task Force. As per the policy, the committee will have oversight from the Superintendent, or her designee.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The CH-UH City School District and the Board of Education believe family engagement and two-way communication are essential to improving district decisions and outcomes for students.

The task force will recommend the practices, curriculum, resources and community partnerships that are necessary to positively impact Kindergarten Readiness with a focus on early literacy and social emotional learning. Furthermore, members will help build alignment and support among key stakeholders Kindergarten Readiness. District staff will share all relevant items with the committee for research and discussion. We appreciate members’ commitment to the district’s Strategic Plan goal of making Kindergarten Readiness a foundation for future academic success. Our collective plan will reflect our commitment to preparing our students for a future that is bright and beneficial to our city and state.

DURATION: The task force will meet once a month beginning in May 2021. The task force will submit a quarterly report to the Board of Education. All task force meetings will be open to the public, and the Superintendent, or her designee, will lead the meetings and establish all agendas.

MEMBERSHIP: The Superintendent, or her designee, will solicit applications for membership on the committee. Our goal is for the task force to include staff, family, community-based organizations, and community members who represent the diversity of CH-UH Schools. We are seeking members who can provide valuable insight, expertise, and perspectives on ways to improve and support Kindergarten Readiness in our district. Members should bring an open mind, a passion for student learning, and a willingness to engage in inquiry, meaningful dialogue, and collaboration throughout the task force process. CH-UH District staff members will be appointed to the committee under the direction of the Superintendent. A representative from the Board of Education will be included as an ex-officio member of the committee.
