Dear CH-UH Families,

I cannot begin this letter without noting the moment we find ourselves in as a nation. On Tuesday, the jury reached a verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin, finding him guilty on all 3 counts in the May 2020 killing of George Floyd. While there may be a sense of relief in this outcome, I, like many of you, am concerned about the impact of these events on our students. In particular the recent killings of Adam Toledo, Daunte Wright and Ma’Khia Bryant are heartbreaking on many levels. Here you can find a statement on these events and resources that could prove helpful as you explore these topics with your children.

I want to thank Mr. Johnnie Lemons for hosting an informative and thought-provoking session on police-community relations on Friday at Cleveland Heights High School and Mr. Mark Sack for helping to amplify the event. These are exactly the kind of spaces we need to create and conversations that we need to have to aid in our healing.

Celebrating our Staff
We have announced our 2020-2021 Teachers of the Year and Helping Hands of the year! These honorees were chosen by their school colleagues for demonstrating excellence in their efforts to educate and support our students. This is a group of shining stars whose work has changed countless lives, from students to peers. The finalists (including the Administrator of the Year Finalists) will be announced next week.

This week, we also celebrated our Administrative Professionals. The support that our administrative and secretarial staff members provide is integral to our success. They are the glue of their teams, keeping everything running smoothly and providing support for all District initiatives.

Vaccination clinic at Heights High
On Wednesday, April 28, Heights High School will host a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the school in partnership with Giant Eagle Pharmacy and the Educational Service Center. Students, family members, employees and community members 16 and older will have the opportunity to receive dose #1 of the Pfizer vaccine.

Please fill out this short Google Form if you, your student, or a family member would like to receive the vaccine at this clinic. If you have already registered, you do not need to register again.

COVID-19 case summary for the week of April 19
Since Monday, April 19, we have received reports of 3 staff members and 6 students testing positive for COVID-19. One of the students had been learning in the fully remote model. These cases are reflected on the District’s case reporting dashboard. The county remains in Level 3 “red” alert level status in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. The data released by the Ohio Department of Health on Thursday show that five of the seven indicators are currently met.

When staff and students who have been in District buildings test positive for COVID-19, we send notices to the families whose children attend the affected schools and to the staff members of those schools. We also post the notices on chuh.org and our District app, available for Android and iPhone. This document contains the process following a staff or student testing positive for COVID-19.
