Sep. 10, 2021 -- The Heights High Swim team made history in 2021, setting new school records and new pool records. This weekend, with the delivery of the updated record boards, the record-breaking Tiger swimmers had the unique experience of posting their names among the elite athletes of the past.

Joining the celebration was Heights alumnus and 1965 state champion, Ron Grant, whose relay record stood for 56 years before finally being broken by the 2021 team of Aidan Peters, Andrew Teets, Emmet Fluharty, and James Huff III. The foursome broke both the 200 Freestyle Relay and the 200 Medley Relay records three times over the course of the last swim season. Aidan Peters also set a new school record for the 100 Freestyle and James Huff III broke the school record for the 100 Breaststroke two times in consecutive weeks.

The girls 200 Freestyle Relay team of Patricia Chen, Clare Dolan, Sophie Muller, and Helen Barr hung their pool record on the board as the fastest time achieved at the Heights High natatorium. Chen also broke her own 100 Freestyle record. Denzel McKenzie added his name to the record board as a member of the fastest 400 Freestyle Relay in the facility's history on a team with Teets, Ben Gifford, and Ari Inwood. Peters hung his pool records for the 50 and 100 Freestyle, Huff posted his name for the 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke, and Fluharty joined them on the board as the record-holder for the 200 Freestyle. Peters, Huff, Teets, and Fluharty also posted pool records for their 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay performances.

In all, eleven Tiger swimmers' names were posted for fourteen new records set in 2021. As they gear up for the 2021-2022 season, these student swimmers and their teammates have lofty goals and hope to display many more new records.
