Heights High Students Win 24 Awards at Scholastic Art & Writing Competition

Jan. 19, 2023 -- Cleveland Heights High School students won 24 awards at the annual Greater Cleveland Scholastic Art & Writing Competition and Exhibition. Their pieces were judged and selected from nearly 2,000 entries by a panel of local professional artists, art educators, writers, and writing educators.

Polly Routh, a junior, participated in the writing portion of the competition where she earned 5 Honorable Mentions. She also received the the Gold Key Award in the Personal Essay & Memoir category with her piece “Finding My Voice.”

The 18 winning pieces that were created by 11 students for the art portion of the competition consisted of 6 Gold Keys, 4 Silver Keys, and 8 Honorable Mentions. The students' artwork can be viewed through the slideshow below or in-person at the Cleveland Institute of Art from January 17 - February 3, 2023 in the Reinberger Gallery.

The 5 students that received a Gold Key Award for their individual works or portfolios will continue to the national competition that is held each spring in New York City.

This is an extraordinary achievement for the Art and ELA departments and highlights the artistic talents that are being cultivated and supported at Cleveland Heights High School.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Competition is an annual event hosted by the Cleveland Institute of Art to recognize the creative achievements of 7-12 grade students in the Greater Cleveland area. The young artists and writers compete for the opportunity to earn cash prizes, medals, and scholarship awards. The competition includes students who are enrolled in public, private, or are homeschooled in Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Lake County Schools.
