Apr. 5, 2024 -- The finalists have been selected for each of the CH-UH City School District’s year-end awards, including Teacher of the Year, Helping Hand of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Administrator of the Year.
The finalists for Teacher, Helping Hand, and Rookie of the Year were determined through district-wide voting. The candidates were the
building winners for each award category. The finalists for Administrator of the Year were determined by the Superintendent’s Cabinet.
District Teacher of the Year Finalists: - Anisha Corbin, English Teacher - Monticello Middle School
- Melissa Garcar, IB Coordinator - Roxboro Elementary School
- Betsy Race, School Counselor - Boulevard Elementary School
- Lia Radke, AVID Teacher - Roxboro Middle School
District Helping Hand of the Year Finalists:
- Eric Adeyemon, Paraprofessional - Monticello Middle School
- Brandon Biggom, Special Education Paraprofessional - Heights High School
- Monita Chancellor, Kindergarten Paraprofessional - Noble Elementary School
- Ricky Newman, Lead Tradesperson - District
- Chuck Smith, Head Custodian - Roxboro Elementary School
District Rookie of the Year Finalists:
- Kathleen Butler, Intervention Specialist - Canterbury Elementary School
- Julian Hischak, Spanish Teacher - Monticello Middle School
- Grace Lowe, Math Teacher - Heights High School
- LaTonya Turner, Administrative Assistant - Fairfax Elementary School
District Administrator of the Year Finalists:
- LaChaunne Perry, 9th Grade Assistant Principal - Heights High School
- Bob Swaggard, Director of College and Career Readiness - District
- Dr. Andrea Walker, Principal - Fairfax Elementary School
The overall District Teacher of the Year, Helping Hand of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Administrator of the Year will be selected by employee panels and announced at the Staff Awards Ceremony on May 24. CH-UH will also honor retirees, tenured teachers, and staff who presented at state or national conferences this past school year.
