Sophomore Wins STEM Scholarship for Girls

Nov. 7, 2022 -- Rilyn Manne, a sophomore at Heights High, was named one of five recipients of the Lorraine Dodero STEM Goes Red for Girls Scholarship at the Go Red for Girls event on Tuesday, October 18th at Baldwin Wallace University. Rilyn will receive a $5,000 scholarship which can be used to attend a college, university, or vocational institution with the intent to earn a degree in a STEM-related field.

The Lorraine Dodero STEM Goes Red for Girls Scholarship was developed in 2019 by the American Red Heart’s Go Red for Women movement and Lorraine Dodero of the Sam J. Frankino Foundation. The scholarship’s goal is to "bridge the gap between female student’s interests in pursuing a career in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) achieve their goals."

Rilyn is a member of the Heights High Golf team and is also involved in the Film Club. She is honored to receive a scholarship that encourages girls to go into STEM and would like to study architecture after high school. Rilyn would like to thank Amy Statler, her Project Lead The Way teacher from Roxboro Middle School who originally introduced her to the Lorraine Dodero Scholarship. She strongly encourages her peers who may be tentative about pursuing a career in a STEM-related field. Saying, “Don’t hesitate about going into STEM, if you’re considering it, go for it!”
