P-EBT Summer SNAP Benefits Information For Families

June 29, 2022 -- The Federal Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program provides summer SNAP benefits to children in PreK through 12th grade who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

Because the CH-UH City School District participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), each PreK-12 student enrolled in CH-UH Schools (with the exception of students enrolled in Tiger Virtual Academy as of the end of the 2021-2022 school year) is eligible for the program. According to the Ohio Department of Education, students attending virtual schools do not qualify for free or reduced meals because they do not attend school at a physical building that participates in the National School Lunch Program; therefore, they are not eligible for P-EBT benefits. View this P-EBT Q&A for more information (question #8).

Each eligible child will receive $7.10 per day (the combined daily federal reimbursement rate for breakfast, lunch, and a snack) for 55 days, totaling $390.50. The summer benefit will be issued in two payments. The first payment will be issued by the end of June in the amount of $191.70 (27 days of benefits). The second payment will be issued by the end of July in the amount of $198.80 (28 days of benefits).

If an eligible child currently receives SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, the P-EBT funds will be issued directly to the existing account and will be available on their SNAP EBT card. For children not currently receiving SNAP benefits, a P-EBT card will be mailed to the family in the child’s name. The process is automatic and no applications or forms are necessary.

All students who were enrolled in CH-UH District buildings (with the exception of Tiger Virtual Academy) as of June 2, 2022 were submitted to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, including graduating seniors. Eligible families should receive their June benefits of $191.70 by July 6.
