CH-UH Recognizes Tiger Team Members of the Month for March
Mar. 25, 2025 -- The theme across the CH-UH School District this year is Heights United. In that spirit, each month CH-UH is recognizing employees who go above and beyond to inspire unity and create a culture of excellence in our district.

For March, CH-UH is honoring 11 people and groups as the “Tiger Team Members of the Month”. Each honoree was nominated by a colleague--and in some instances multiple colleagues--and the nominees were then voted upon by a staff committee.

The honorees will be recognized by the Board of Education at a future meeting.

BOE/Bus Depot/Delisle Options Center/IT/Millikin: Betsy Friedlander
Betsy has been an amazing re(addition) to the Foundation staff. She has also done a lot in the BOE building. She has taken it upon herself to organize and clean conference rooms, come up with creative programs for our monthly staff events and is a pleasure to work with. Anything asked of her, she does with a smile and with excellence. She is truly a leader in our Tiger Den!

Boulevard: Sandy Curtis
Sandy goes beyond her job description and is very helpful!

Canterbury: Laurie Wilson
For the past several years, Laurie has been the IT Department liaison for Canterbury. Laurie is always cheerful, polite, conscientious, and a joy to work with. Recently, a question came up about some classroom devices that were missing. Laurie volunteered to go into the classroom, verify what was there and confirm what was missing. In the process, she found a Chromebook that had been reported as missing. Laurie earned her honorary IT detective hat that day! Her actions exemplify what we all wish for in a staff member.

Fairfax: Keiarra Nelson & Jada James
Our amazing kindergarten paraprofessionals are the best in the business. We can count on them to fill in and help in all areas of the building. They greet our youngest students with a smile and love everyday. We are blessed to have these amazing ladies at Fairfax.

Gearity: Sherri Malek
Sherri is the ultimate team player. I worked with her for many years in first grade. Whenever I needed help with anything, she was there to support me in any way that she could. Sherri values her kids and their families. Sherri gives her ALL everyday so that her students are successful. Her students accomplish so much because they know that she cares. Sherri is an unbelievable colleague to her peers and a wonderful teacher to her students!

Heights High: Coleman Tokar
Mr. Tokar goes above and beyond every day to support his students and coworkers. He makes learning engaging and accessible, always finding creative ways to help kids understand tough concepts. He’s a positive presence in the building, ready to lend a hand or share a laugh when it’s needed. His dedication to his students and willingness to work with others to make the school a better place really stands out. Mr. Tokar truly cares, and it shows in everything he does.

Monticello: Tonya Martin
Ms. Martin is an exceptional paraprofessional who consistently goes above and beyond in every aspect of her role. She is a powerful advocate for what’s best for our students, and her voice in support of their needs makes a tremendous impact on both the classroom and the school community. Whether she’s assisting with new procedures like the cell phone policy and OpenGate Security System, offering instructional support in classrooms, or building strong partnerships, her commitment is unwavering.

Noble: Mary Windham
Ms. Windham exemplifies what a team member should be. She has supported me since my very first day at Noble. She makes sure that I know how to navigate the curriculum and provides supplemental materials that I could use with my students in the classroom. She has been patient, available, and extremely supportive of my journey at Noble Elementary School.

Oxford: Makaila Tepley
Makaila has joined the 1st grade team as a long term substitute with a group of children who really love her attention. She shows great patience and flexibility as she continues to try to meet both the academic and behavioral needs of her students. She is always willing to try new things, and her kindness is what I know the 1st graders will remember about her. Thanks Makaila for being a stable presence in the life of our Oxford tigers!

Rox El: Joanne Berkovitz
Mrs. Berkovitz goes above and beyond for the staff and students at Rox El. She has been a great mentor for me in my new role.

Rox Mid: Megan McLaughlin
Megan works diligently everyday to make sure that her students are learning (and having fun while doing it). She incorporates so many different strategies into her lessons so that her classes are engaged, and she isn't afraid to ask for help when she needs it. Megan also plans field trips for her students so they have real-life experiences using what they learned in science class. She is invaluable to the Roxboro community.
