June 23, 2016 – Through various fundraising activities, the CH-UH City School District raised more than $22,000 for the American Heart Association during the 2015-2016 school year.

In November 2015, the District kicked off its annual partnership with the AHA to promote heart healthy lifestyles to staff, students and the school community and to raise funds to support the mission of the AHA.

The fundraising goal set at the start of the school year was $22,000. The final total – through Jump Rope for Heart, Hoops for Heart and Red Out events – was $22,693.29.

The biggest fundraiser was the Roxboro Elementary School Jump Rope for Heart, which for the second consecutive year broke the regional fundraising record. Led by physical education teacher Vince Nemeth, Rox El raised $12,436.12.

According to the AHA, 536 CH-UH students participated in fundraising programs this year. Enough funds were raised to train more than 400 people in CPR.

Schools received the following for their participation:

-An event kit that includes lesson plans for heart-healthy curriculum that meet Ohio Common Core standards, jump ropes, basketballs, a heart survivor educational DVD and two t-shirts

-Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart banners to display in the school

Participation in the AHA programs also increases morale and energy within the school; helps students, staff and families maintain an active and healthy lifestyle along with easier access to wellness tools and resources; and brings positive exposure to the community.

The AHA also engaged the District through kick-off assemblies at each school, “Wellness Wednesday” heart tips and designation as a “Fit Friendly School District.”
