Link Fundraiser at Appletree Books

Aug. 9, 2016 -- Link, a Cleveland-based learning organization and partner of CH-UH schools, will host a fundraising day at Appletree Books on Cedar Road on Friday, August 12 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Appletree Books will donate a percentage of all sales to the Link Parent Engagement programs that engage and support CH-UH families.

The proceeds from the event will be used to supplement the cost of the books used in the adult book clubs and study groups; student books for parents to read with their child; and journals/folders for participants.

Appletree Books is located at 12419 Cedar Road in the Cedar Fairmont area.

The Link programs are:

Parent Book Club – 4th Tuesday of each month (6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.)

The CH-UH Parent Book Club was started in the fall of 2012, and is open to parents from all seven elementary schools. In addition to meeting parents from across the district, participants have the opportunity to read and discuss a variety of literature using some of the same strategies their children are exposed to in the classroom, enabling them to talk with their children using the language of school. Parents also model the joy to be found in reading a great book! Why should kids have all the fun?

Parents in the Middle – 2nd Tuesday of each month (6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.)

Adolescence is a strange and wonderful time, full of change and opportunity. The Parents in the Middle study group supports parents of middle schoolers at Roxboro and Monticello, as their children undergo this period of incredible growth and transformation. Parents explore topics related to adolescent development and discover new ways to connect with their increasingly independent children. The opportunity to share experiences and exchange ideas with other parents is a key component of this group, and one cited often by parents as a critical support for them.

Parents on the Edge – 3rd Thursday of each month (6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.)

High school is a time of new challenges for both parents and students. As children move toward young adulthood, parents learn to adjust their support so that their children can become more independent. The Parents on the Edge group provides opportunities for parents to focus on adolescent development, communication, and the changing expectations of both children and their parents. Like Parents in the Middle, this study group strengthens the school community by providing parents with a forum for sharing and learning together.

Parent Ambassadors - 1st Wednesday of each month (9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.)

The Parent Ambassador team for CH-UH was formed in the fall of 2011 and currently includes representatives from each of the seven elementary and the two middle schools. Through informative meetings with district staff, members of this team are learning about district policies and initiatives so that they are able to serve as informed ambassadors for the district. They also represent the parent perspective back to the district and so are able to serve as ambassadors for you!
