Oct. 4, 2016 -- October activities for kids and teens at the Heights Libraries include "books and barks," girl power pow-wows and freestyle sessions.

For Kids

Homework Help and Reading Buddies

Thursdays in October, 4-6 p.m. at the Lee Road branch, 2345 Lee Road

Kids in grades K-5 can get help with homework or a class project, or practice their reading skills with a buddy! No registration needed, kids can just drop in. Takes place in the Storytelling Room in the children’s area.

Books and Barks at Noble

Monday in October, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Noble Neighborhood Branch, 2800 Noble Road

Dr. Barkley, a gentle Yellow Lab, is a certified service animal who would love to listen to your child read a story. Parents can sign up their children in grades K-5 for a 15-minute appointment with Dr. Barkley. Call to register, 216-291-5665. Limit one reading slot per day per child.

Girl Power Powwow

Mondays in October, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Noble Neighborhood Branch, 2800 Noble Road

A safe space for girls grades K-5 to discuss what it's like to be a girl right now. Girls can talk about what's going on in the world, their feelings, and positive ways to feel good about being a girl.

For Teens

Girl Power Powwow for Teens

Mondays in October, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Noble Neighborhood Branch, 2800 Noble Road

A safe space for girls grades 6-12 to discuss what it's like to be a teen girl right now. Girls can talk about what's going on in the world, their feelings, and positive ways to feel good about being a teen girl.

Teen Fan-dahmonium

Tuesdays in October, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m., at the Lee Road branch, 2345 Lee Road

The “Let the Teens Run the Library Club!” Whether you love anime, Minecraft, comics, video games, Legos, fanfiction, Tumblr, movies, or even plain old books, this is the club for you! Come hang out, share your passions, and meet up with other teens like you. Activities vary from week to week and are teen chosen and directed.

Freestyle Wednesdays

Wednesdays in October, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Noble Neighborhood Branch, 2800 Noble Road

Hang out and watch freestyle battles-both classic hip hop and modern rap. These wordsmiths will inspire you to pen your own rhymes.
