Message to Families From Superintendent Kirby - July 17, 2020
July 17, 2020

Dear CH-UH Families,

Thank you for attending the Facebook Live event this past Tuesday. It allowed us to receive lots of great questions and feedback, and we are currently compiling answers to the frequently asked questions that we haven’t yet addressed. That document will be available early next week on CHUH.org. We will also answer some of these questions, including more details about the online models, at the Board work session scheduled for Tuesday, July 21 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be livestreamed on our District YouTube page.

The state of Ohio recently implemented a 4-level alert system to provide information by county on the virus spread. If Cuyahoga County enters level 4 (purple), all instruction in our District will move to remote learning. Currently, our county is at level 3 (red). This means that there is significant spread of the virus. Given this status, many families have shared that they are strongly interested in a blending learning model for their K-5 students.

In order to get an accurate picture of the models that K-5 families prefer at this time, we have added that option back. If you have already submitted your Intent to Return form for your child and would like to change your submission, please submit a new form. Once we have a complete picture of the choices our families have made, we will use that information to update our draft and share with the community. Please be sure to submit your choices by Friday, July 24. We realize it's challenging to make a decision about reopening when it’s still weeks away, and a lot may change between now and then. Hearing from you now is helping us prepare for and address your concerns.

Finally, I’m happy to share that we are collaborating with existing and new community partners on providing in-person and virtual enrichment programs during school hours and after school. We will share more about these options as they become available.

Families, I want you all to know that we are listening to your concerns, as well as those of our staff, and take them seriously. Each member of Tiger Nation has a different set of needs, fears, and hopes for the 2020-2021 school year. We are working to do our best to address them while keeping our students’ and staff members’ safety at the forefront.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Liz Kirby
