No Free Produce Pickup June 18, Chicken Available Courtesy GFS
June 12, 2020 -- Due to supply chain issues outside of the District's control, the Farmers to Families free produce pickup has been canceled for Thursday, June 18. Instead, Gordon Food Service has graciously offered to donate frozen chicken tenders for patrons.

The pickup will run as normally scheduled on June 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until supplies run out) at Heights High School. Patrons will each receive a 10-pound box of the pre-cooked, frozen chicken. The box will contain two 5-pound bags of poultry. GFS plans to donate 1,000 boxes.

Drivers should enter off of Washington, drive through, pop their trunk, and the box will be placed inside by a staff member or volunteer. There will be no paperwork or anything to show; just drive up and receive a box. Event organizers ask that patrons wear masks. Boxes will not be placed in the backseats of vehicles.

The Farmers to Families produce giveaway initiative is thanks to Mr. Ted Copeland, father of Roxboro Middle School teacher Dani Copeland. Mr. Copeland owns Perfect Pact, which received a grant from the USDA to make our District a site for Farmers to Families.

At this time, the June 25 produce pickup is expected to happen as originally scheduled. If you would like to arrange to pick up produce for a larger group, please email Nancy Peppler at [email protected].
