District Names New Supervisor of Communications
Cathan Cavanaugh
June 8, 2019 -- Cathan Cavanaugh has been named the Supervisor of Communications for the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District.

Cavanaugh, who has worked in the District as a communications assistant since 2014, will assume her new title and responsibilities on June 10. She replaces Scott Wortman, who departed June 7 to become the Chief Communications Officer for Columbus City Schools.

“I couldn’t be more excited to take on this new role,” said Cavanaugh. “This district and community mean so much to me, and I am ready to begin leading the department’s work in promoting our wonderful schools and enhancing communications with families.”

During her time at CH-UH, Cavanaugh has supported major communications initiatives in both background and leadership roles, including redesigning the district website, developing a family engagement plan as part of a district task force, and implementing the Public is for All marketing campaign. Her videography work has been recognized by the Ohio School Public Relations Association.

“On top of her professional skill set, Cathan brings a wealth of institutional knowledge and has already established solid relationships with many parents and staff members. I know she will be a great asset to our administrative team as we move our district forward,” said incoming Superintendent Ms. Elizabeth Kirby.

Cavanaugh began her professional career in 2009 as a local television news producer in Toledo, Ohio. She later worked as a community relations manager for Earth Fare, a health food store chain, from 2012 to 2014. From 2011 to 2018, Cavanaugh served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a hospital corpsman, while also working with joint force public relations teams on various military training exercises throughout the country.

A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Cavanaugh graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in political science.
