Message #4 From Superintendent Kirby On COVID-19
March 11, 2020

Dear CH-UH Families and Staff,

After much deliberation and discussion, District leaders and I have decided to cancel all classes for students on Tuesday, March 17 to allow teachers and administrators a day to work through plans for online and at-home learning. All staff are expected to report to work. Today, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine repeated his initial recommendation that K-12 schools remain open but that we prepare for the possibility of closures.

Furthermore, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to cancel most school building-based events and local field trips beginning tomorrow, March 12 and continuing through the last day of Spring Break, March 29. Events scheduled after this date will be reassessed after evaluating the current situation.

Sports practices, rehearsals, and small group meetings will continue as directed by the coaches and group leaders.

A current list of canceled CH-UH events (list subject to additions) is below. Two events are still on, but are no longer open to the public; these are in red.

Athletic Games
The Ohio High School Athletic Association has directed Ohio high schools to allow up to 4 immediate family members of players to attend remaining sporting events. Although our high school winter season is over, the Athletic Department will follow this directive for our remaining middle school games.

These decisions come in response to confirmed cases of coronavirus in Cuyahoga County. Public health officials have recommended limiting meetings of large groups and increasing social distancing measures. To reiterate, at this time we have no confirmed cases of coronavirus among CH-UH City Schools employees or students, but we want to do our part to help contain the spread of this virus.

Thank you,
Superintendent Liz Kirby
