Heights Alum Mel Tucker Named Head Football Coach at University of Colorado

Dec. 12, 2018 -- Mel Tucker, a 1990 graduate of Heights High School, was recently named the head football coach at the University of Colorado in Boulder. 

Tucker is an accomplished football coach with numerous stops throughout college football and the NFL. Most recently, he was the defensive coordinator at the University of Georgia and has also coached at Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Miami (Ohio), and Michigan State. He coached in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, and Jacksonville Jaguars. He was the Jaguars’ interim head coach for five games during the 2011 season.

At Heights, Tucker was an all-state quarterback and a standout basketball player for the Tigers. He earned a football scholarship to play at the University of Wisconsin where he played defensive back for legendary coach Barry Alvarez. Tucker graduated from Wisconsin in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in agricultural business management.
