ASL guests and students
April 9, 2019 -- On March 14, two guests from the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center visited students in the American Sign Language (ASL) 2,3,4 and 4 honors classes.

Sandra Hatibovic is the Community Outreach Specialist/Deaf Advocate and Sarita Cornwall is the Support Services/Community Outreach Specialist. Both of the guests are Deaf and used ASL to communicate with the students, augmented with spoken English language interpreters.

The presentation included information about Deaf Culture, teen dating, and healthy relationships.

ASL teacher Lori Harris organized the event, along with the staff from Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center. “After the presentation, our students said that they understood many of the signs used by the guests,” said Ms. Harris. “We were especially proud that the students were so focused and engaged for the entire two-hour presentation.

The program was also supported by the Rape Crisis Center of Cleveland, Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center of Cleveland and the Cleveland Police.
