Resources Available for Families Affected by Government Shutdown
Jan. 25, 2019 (Updated) -- Cleveland-area agencies and businesses are offering help to families experiencing hardship as a result of the government shutdown.

City of Cleveland Heights
City officials finalized on Friday, Jan. 25, a partial relief package that will defer utility payments for furloughed federal workers and affected landlords. Click here for more information.

City of University Heights
The city is collecting donations for USO to benefit Coast Guard families affected by the shutdown. Donations can be dropped off at City Hall.

Hebrew Free Loan Association
Northeast Ohioan furloughed government workers (of any faith) can call (216) 378-9042 to inquire about a 0% interest loan to help them during this time. HFLA will delay repayment until the shutdown ends. Click here for more information.

Greater Cleveland Food Bank/SNAP Recipient Information
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank is offering help to connect people to food and other resources. If you need help, please call (216) 738-2067. Food stamp recipients will receive February benefits on or around January 20 (one month early). The food bank advises to carefully spend your benefit to make sure it lasts both months.

The food bank will be distributing fresh milk at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank (15500 S Waterloo Road, Cleveland, OH 44110) through the month of January at the following times:

Mondays: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Wednesdays: 2:00 - 5:00 pm
Fridays: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

They will also distribute fresh produce February 21 from 4-6 p.m.

Full SNAP benefit update from the Greater Cleveland Food Bank 

The food bank also hosts school markets at Boulevard Elementary (first Tuesday of the month) and Oxford Elementary (third Tuesday of the month), where anyone can come and receive free, fresh food from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
