Board of Education Meeting Summary - February 2, 2021
Feb. 3, 2021 -- During the monthly Regular Board of Education meeting on February 2, Superintendent Kirby offered an update on hybrid learning plans, Chief Financial Officer Scott Gainer delivered a presentation regarding public records requests, and students and staff were recognized for their recent achievements.

Recognitions & Future Heights Presentation

Superintendent Kirby and the Board recognized the winners of the East View United Church 31st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest (Jasmin Sanders-Triplett, Karis Wilson, Amaya Myles and Jordan Cole); Heights High senior Hannah Bradley, who was named to the PBS “20 Under 20 Up-and-Coming Storytellers” list, CH-UH school counselors as part of National School Counseling Week, and the Tiger Team Members of the Month for January. Heights High freshman Dashara Turner reported news from the high school to the Board.

Deanna Bremer Fisher of FutureHeights provided an update on the organization's efforts to rehabilitate houses in the area surrounding Heights High School.

Superintendent’s Report

Superintendent Kirby gave the Board a general update on District happenings, including the latest number of breakfasts and lunches served in our community (448,530) and last week’s College and Career Readiness Week. She addressed several recent questions the District has received regarding in-person learning.

Kirby also provided an update on the vaccine distribution for staff. The ESC (Educational Service Center) is coordinating vaccine roll out. The District’s local partner is Giant Eagle. Some details, such as exact dates for CH-UH clinics, will be dependent upon Giant Eagle’s update from the state about timing of anticipated doses. Giant Eagle will provide all of the registration forms and information for the ESC to disperse to each school.

Five Year Forecast/CH-UH Public Records Presentation

The Board approved the Five Year Forecast, which was presented by CFO Gainer. Gainer also walked through the details of how to submit a public records request and how his team handles them.

The Board also discussed plans to begin meeting in person once again on February 16, their next scheduled meeting.
