Message to Families From Superintendent Kirby - June 4, 2021
Dear CH-UH Families,

It’s a momentous day as we celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2021. Like the class before them, these seniors faced a world filled with uncertainties and fears during their last year of high school, and came out stronger on the other side. I am so proud to say that they have earned a collective $13.9 million in scholarships, and counting. Tune in to our District YouTube channel at 6 p.m. this evening for the Commencement livestream.

Congratulations to the staff award recipients who were honored at our ceremony Wednesday evening. We were excited to present Heights High’s Rebecca McDonald, Boulevard’s Octavia Houston, and Heights High’s John Fullerman as the overall District winners (Teacher, Helping Hand, and Administrator of the year, respectively). I wish the 28 retirees recognized for their service all a happy retirement; they have impacted countless lives and are forever part of Tiger Nation.

End of Year survey for families reminder
To help plan for the 21-22 school year and gather feedback to reflect on this school year, I invite you to take the District’s End of Year Survey for 20-21 via the link below.

Summer reading & online “boost” resources
The CH-UH School District and Heights Libraries are working together this summer to encourage all families to have fun reading! Take a look at this information on the Heights Libraries’ prize giveaway and the District’s suggested reading lists for all grade levels.

The Curriculum & Instruction team has been working on a rich online Summer Boost program for students; details can be found here. Your child can use their District Chromebook or personal computer/tablet to access these resources through Clever. K-5 students that log one hour per week this summer in their Learning Path and 6-12 students who complete a Booster course will be entered to win Tiger Nation swag and gift cards for local restaurants.

Summer work
Here are some of the things we’ll be working on in Central Office and at the building level this summer.

  • Our inaugural Tiger Nation Summer Camps kick off on Monday, June 7.
  • A committee has convened to develop a fully remote learning option for families for the 21-22 school year.
  • The strategic planning steering committee is working to finalize and begin communicating the 5-year Strategic Plan refresh.
  • District leaders continue to plan around equity and closing the achievement gap.
  • Building Leadership Teams will meet to develop school goals for the 21-22 year.

COVID-19 case summary for the week of May 31
Since Monday, May 31, we have received reports of one staff member and zero students testing positive for COVID-19. Positive cases are reflected on the District’s case reporting dashboard. On May 27, the Ohio Department of Health announced the cancellation, effective immediately, of the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. The ODH will continue to share COVID-19 case and vaccination data daily at coronavirus.ohio.gov.

As we close out the final chapter of the 20-21 school year, I want to once again express my gratitude to you for living our District’s motto of ACE - Adaptability, Collaboration, and Equity. I hope you have a fun, relaxing and refreshing summer with loved ones. Take good care and be safe.

Sincerely,
Superintendent Kirby
