District Launches Fully Online Learning Option For 21-22
July 9, 2021 -- The Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District is proud to announce its fully online learning option for the 2021-2022 school year, Tiger Virtual Academy (TVA).

TVA will be available for CH-UH students in grades K-12. Similar to the Ohio Online program offered during the 2020-2021 school year, students in TVA will work asynchronously and at their own pace, with the support of a District teacher. Students in grades K-5 will use Lincoln Learning and students in grades 6-12 will use Edgenuity. TVA students will be able to participate in District athletics, extra-curricular activities, and after-school functions in-person.

With the knowledge that families may prefer a remote learning option for their children for a variety of reasons, the creation of TVA comes at the recommendation of the Online Learning Task Force, composed of District educators, administrators, support staff, and instructional specialists. It was approved by the Board of Education on June 29.

Below are the answers to some initial questions families may have about TVA.

How will District teachers work with TVA students?
While TVA is designed for students to work at their own pace and on their own time, the District will provide support through certified CH-UH educators. These educators help facilitate lessons, answer questions, and serve as the student’s main point of contact. Support from CH-UH counselors, vendor instructors, and technical support will also be provided.

How do students with disabilities participate in TVA?
Students with disabilities accessing the online platform require a consultation with families, the student’s intervention specialist, and the school principal. The recommendations for Tiger Virtual Academy are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to align with the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals.

Will TVA students still take the OST and other state required tests?
Yes. Students participating in TVA will be required to participate in person for all state assessments.

Can my high school student take Advanced Placement courses in TVA?
Yes. Some AP courses will be provided through Edgenuity, and others will be offered in person at Heights High School.

What is the commitment for registered TVA students?
We ask that students in TVA commit to a minimum of 1 semester of the program before changing to the fully in-person learning model.

How do we learn more about TVA and register?
This guide contains information outlining grade-level, course, and graduation requirements, as well as a link to the fillable PDF application (also available here). We ask our current families to indicate interest in the program by submitting the application by Friday, August 20 at 4:30 p.m.

An orientation will also be held in the coming weeks for families and students who want to participate in TVA.
