Message to Families From Superintendent Kirby - February 13, 2021
February 13, 2021

Dear CH-UH Families,

Happy Saturday! I imagine that your children are settled in for an enjoyable long weekend. Yesterday, teachers engaged in independent learning and professional development activities. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday in observance of Presidents Day.

Orientations and Virtual Parent Cafe
For those families whose children are returning to school in-person over the next couple of weeks, I hope that you have found this week’s orientation events informative and confidence-building. I also want to give kudos to Boulevard School Counselor Betsy Race for hosting a virtual family cafe last night, holding space for our District families to discuss their feelings about returning to school. Nearly 70 Tiger Nation families participated. I have heard that it was a community-building experience. Thank you, families, for attending these events on behalf of your children.

Updated protocol documents
Each school has its own building-level protocol document, located on our Semester 2 page on CHUH.org. Several schools’ sheets have been updated this week to reflect recent changes to meal procedures. Please be sure to check your school’s document to note any changes.

Meal pickup changes
For families remaining in the fully remote model who wish to continue (or begin) picking up breakfast and/or lunch for their children, the meal pickup schedule has been modified effective Wednesday, February 17. Please review this flyer for updated locations, dates and times.

Students who will be attending in the hybrid model may pick up meals at their school each day.

In-person BOE meetings
Beginning Tuesday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m., the Board of Education will resume meeting in person. The Board meetings will take place in the Heights High auditorium, where members will sit socially-distanced on the stage. Members of the community and District employees are welcome to attend. Our health & safety protocols will be in place, including mask wearing and social distancing (auditorium seats are marked off accordingly). The meetings will still be streamed live on our District YouTube page and conducted via electronic technology subject to Ohio law.

Staff vaccine updates
On the morning of February 17, CH-UH staff who have elected to receive the COVID-19 vaccine will receive their first dose at the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio. Because that is a Wednesday, all students will learn remotely and asynchronously. Students will be provided with assignments and projects to complete independently. Attendance will be based on work completion that day.

COVID-19 case summary for the week of February 8
Since Monday, February 8, we have received reports of three staff members and two students testing positive for COVID-19. Both students had been working/learning remotely. The three staff members had been coming to work in-person. These cases are reflected on the District’s case reporting dashboard. The county remains in Level 3 “red” alert level status in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. The data released by the Ohio Department of Health on Thursday show that two of the seven indicators are currently met.

When staff and students who have been in District buildings test positive for COVID-19, we send notices to the families whose children attend the affected schools and to the staff members of those schools. We also post the notices on chuh.org and our District app, available for Android and iPhone. All email notices now come from the COVID-19 Notification Team. If you no longer wish to receive these COVID-19 email notices, please email Cathan Cavanaugh at [email protected]. This document contains the process following a staff or student testing positive for COVID-19.

I know that you may have additional questions as we begin to transition into our hybrid learning models. Please continue to reach out to your school's principal with those questions and concerns. General questions can be directed to the CH-UH district offices at (216) 371-7171 and you can find reopening information here.

Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,
Superintendent Kirby
