Heights Coalition Book Discussion Series Begins March 10
Feb. 26, 2021 -- The Heights Coalition for Public Education will host a community discussion series on Schoolhouse Burning: Public Education and the Assault on American Democracy beginning March 10. The book's author, Derek Black, will join the first conversation.

Schoolhouse Burning frames current state policies that privatize and underfund public education as an attack on democracy itself. Black traces how providing for public education at public expense became a “state’s absolute and foremost duty,” starting with the 1787 Northwest Ordinance, and deepening during Reconstruction and the Civil Rights Movement. The author makes defending public education critical to the future of democracy.

The event is happening virtually from 7 to 8:45 p.m. The remaining two discussions will take place on March 24 and April 7. Register with your Zoom account here.

The CH-UH Board of Education is a cosponsor of the event.
