Dear CH-UH Families,

It was one year ago today that Governor Mike DeWine announced a mandated, minimum 3-week closure for all Ohio schools due to COVID-19. Flash forward 12 months, and it feels as though we are finally on the cusp of normalcy again now that the spread is slowing and our communities are receiving the vaccine. As you know, our staff received their second dose of the vaccine on Wednesday. I thank you for your flexibility and understanding with regard to our additional asynchronous days that were necessary due to increased staff absences.

I will meet this coming Monday with my Reopening Advisory Committee, at which time I will receive recommendations from the Reopening Planning Committees for potential model changes for Quarter 4, if feasible. Any changes in the instructional model are pending Board of Education approval and all models would align with CDC health and safety guidance. We also would continue to maintain a remote learning option for students.

On Monday, March 8, we sent a survey to all PreK-12 families for your feedback on hybrid learning thus far, as well as to gauge interest in potential learning model adjustments for students in grades K-12 beginning after April 6, the start of the fourth quarter. If you have not had a chance to submit yours, please do so here. If you have already submitted a survey via Infinite Campus or the Google Form, your response has been recorded and you do not need to submit another. We will discuss the results of this survey at the next Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, March 16 at 7 p.m.

COVID-19 updates from the state
On Thursday, Governor DeWine announced that students who are currently not required to quarantine for a school-based exposure can continue to participate in organized sports as long as they are asymptomatic and follow sports guidance. This extends the allowable activities for students who were permitted to continue to attend school if they were exposed, as long as there was at least 3 foot distance and masks were worn.

COVID-19 case summary for the week of March 8
Since Monday, March 8, we have received reports of 2 staff members and zero students testing positive for COVID-19. This case is reflected on the District’s case reporting dashboard. The county remains in Level 3 “red” alert level status in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. The data released by the Ohio Department of Health on Thursday show that two of the seven indicators are currently met.

When staff and students who have been in District buildings test positive for COVID-19, we send notices to the families whose children attend the affected schools and to the staff members of those schools. We also post the notices on chuh.org and our District app, available for Android and iPhone. This document contains the process following a staff or student testing positive for COVID-19.
