Message to Families From Superintendent Kirby - August 27, 2021
August 27, 2021

Dear CH-UH Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful first week of school! I enjoyed visiting the buildings and meeting happy kids, families and staff. Even behind the masks, I could tell there were lots of smiles. You may have even heard that your child got to meet our mascot, TJ the Tiger! Be on the lookout for photos on our District’s Facebook page soon.

Tiger Virtual Academy also began this week with nearly 200 of our students across all grade levels and we look forward to welcoming our preschool students for their first day of school on August 31!

As I shared with our staff during our virtual Convocation Day on Monday, our district theme for this year is “Together We RISE.” RISE stands for Reunite, Inspire, Support, and Excel. We will be mindful of these four pillars as we collaborate to provide your children with what they need to achieve success in school.

Walk your child’s schedule during Curriculum Nights
Curriculum Nights are a great opportunity to experience what your child’s day at school looks like. The elementary Curriculum Night is August 31, middle schools are on September 1 and Heights High’s is September 2. Be on the lookout for details from your school principal.

Chromebook Exchange Nights September 1-2
The district’s IT Department has brand new Chromebooks for students in grades 6 through 12. Plus, students in grades 3-5 may have devices eligible for an upgrade. If you have not yet exchanged your student’s old device, it is important to do so. Many of our online curricular and testing programs rely on updated technology.

There will be two additional Chromebook Exchange Nights held on Wednesday, September 1 and Thursday, September 2, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m; click here for details.

MetroHealth offering health care services for all students
The MetroHealth Institute for H.O.P.E. School Health Program is partnering with CH-UH to offer health care services on-site at your child’s school. Your child will now have easier medical service access during the school day. There is never a co-pay or any out-of-pocket expenses for these services. Read more about the program and find the schedule here.

COVID-19 case summary for the week of August 23, 2021
Since Monday, August 23, we have received reports of one staff member and two students testing positive for COVID-19. One of the students had not been in any CH-UH building. Positive cases are reflected on the District’s case reporting dashboard. You can view the dashboard and case summaries here, as well as links to area pharmacies that offer the COVID-19 vaccines.

Starting next Friday, you’ll notice that our weekly communications will look a little different. We are shifting to a 1-page bulletin style newsletter with important information. I think you’ll find these at-a-glance documents useful and accessible. I will still send an occasional letter around holidays and notable parts of the school year.

Have a great weekend, and thank you to our staff, students and families for a wonderful kickoff to the school year!

Sincerely,
Superintendent Kirby
