Message to Families From Superintendent Kirby - March 26, 2021
March 26, 2021

Dear CH-UH Families,

I hope you and your children are preparing for a relaxing and well-deserved spring break. It will be a busy and exciting time behind the scenes here in the District, as our operations team will be working to prepare for more of our students to return to school in person.

We appreciate the time that families have spent completing our model selection surveys. This information is needed as we plan staffing, transportation, classroom spaces and other school logistics. If you have not yet submitted your instructional model selection, please do so using the appropriate link below. The surveys will close at 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 28. If you need to make a choice or a change after that time, please contact your child’s school principal. If you have already submitted a survey, your response has been recorded and there is no need to submit another.

This chart outlines the learning model options that will be available to various student groups (including CTE, Options Center, and students with low-incidence disabilities) and start dates for the 5-day model.

Resources to help guide your decision:

Spring break meal distribution schedule
The District’s Food Service Department will continue the weekly meal distribution program to serve all children in the community throughout spring break at an adjusted schedule. Meal pickups at the regular locations during the normal hours will resume on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. View the spring break schedule here.

Spring test scores to determine EdChoice status in 2023-2024
Several parents have reached out to me asking for information on spring testing and whether or not opting out of tests would have a negative impact on the District. I have reached out to the Ohio Department of Education to get clarity on this question and have posted information on the district website here. Unfortunately, Ohio lawmakers recently passed legislation that has language which will allow the Ohio Department of Education to use state standardized test scores from the 2020-2021 school year to determine EdChoice eligibility for the 2023-2024 school year. Knowing that this spring’s scores will be dramatically impacted by the pandemic, this would be yet another devastating blow to the District, as current EdChoice legislation has already cost our schools tens of millions of dollars over the past several years. If you have additional questions about testing and the testing schedules that schools have shared, please reach out to your school’s principal.

COVID-19 case summary for the week of March 22
Since Monday, March 22, we have received reports of 1 staff member and 2 students testing positive for COVID-19. Both students had been learning in the fully remote model. These cases are reflected on the District’s case reporting dashboard. The county remains in Level 3 “red” alert level status in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. The data released by the Ohio Department of Health on Thursday show that three of the seven indicators are currently met.

When staff and students who have been in District buildings test positive for COVID-19, we send notices to the families whose children attend the affected schools and to the staff members of those schools. We also post the notices on chuh.org and our District app, available for Android and iPhone. This document contains the process following a staff or student testing positive for COVID-19.

Tiger Nation, I hope that you have a great spring break and I look forward to seeing you soon when school resumes in April. Stay safe!

Sincerely,
Superintendent Kirby
