Dear CH-UH Families,

As you know, we are preparing to launch a 5-day per week, fully in-person instructional model for K-12 students beginning after Spring Break. This is a major step toward improving results for our students who have had difficulties with academics as well as their social and emotional health during the past year. I am excited to welcome more students back into our brick and mortar schools.

We will continue to offer the hybrid and fully remote (mySchool Online and Ohio Online) models as options for middle school and Heights High students. The fully remote option will also remain for Pre-K and elementary students. This chart outlines the learning model options that will be available to various student groups (including CTE, Options Center, and students with low-incidence disabilities) and start dates for the 5-day model.

Now, we are asking our K-12 families to select the learning model they’d like for their child beginning April 12. Please submit your selection by Wednesday, March 24. If you have any questions, please contact your building principal.

We’ve received questions about social distancing in the classroom when more students attend in person. To the extent possible, we will continue to use 6 feet as the standard distancing of classroom desks. However, it’s important to note that the CDC released updated guidance today stating that 3 feet between students is an acceptable distance, so long as everyone is wearing a mask. The Cuyahoga County Board of Health has also previously provided guidance stating that 3 feet can be used for social distancing if necessary, so long as students are wearing masks.

Governor Mike DeWine has announced that Ohioans 16 and older will become eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine under Phase 2D of Ohio’s vaccination program beginning Monday, March 29. With parental or legal guardian consent, individuals ages 16 and 17 will be eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine, which is the only COVID-19 vaccine currently authorized for use under age 18. We will share information about vaccines for children under 16 as soon as it becomes available.

Since Monday, March 15, we have received reports of zero staff members and four students testing positive for COVID-19. Of the students, three had been learning in the fully remote model. These cases are reflected on the District’s case reporting dashboard. The county remains in Level 3 “red” alert level status in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. The data released by the Ohio Department of Health on Thursday show that two of the seven indicators are currently met.

When staff and students who have been in District buildings test positive for COVID-19, we send notices to the families whose children attend the affected schools and to the staff members of those schools. We also post the notices on chuh.org and our District app, available for Android and iPhone. This document contains the process following a staff or student testing positive for COVID-19.
