Event Recap: Senior College and Career Day Fair
Oct. 20, 2021 -- The College and Career Day Fair was a successful event as 26 schools and organizations filled the Heights High School gymnasium to share opportunities available to students beyond graduation. Seniors and families were invited to explore various colleges and career pathways, as well as begin major senior year tasks. More than 140 seniors attended to complete scholarship applications, receive essay writing assistance, and finish their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Seniors completed a variety of applications with Guidance Technician Jacqueline Blockson and Lake Erie Ink. This included the Coca-Cola Scholarships worth a total of $20,000 for graduating seniors. Additionally, Lake Erie Ink offered one-on-one assistance in editing and turning in college and scholarship essays.

Support was given to seniors and parents in creating the FSA ID and completing the FAFSA by College Now Greater Cleveland staff members and Dr. Carmen Daniel, GEAR UP 2 New Heights Advisor. Forty seniors created their FSA IDs and started the FAFSA. One-on-one assistance was also provided in completing the Common Application and updating college selections and transcript requests on Naviance.

This collaborative effort was provided by GEAR UP 2 New Heights Advisor Dr. Carmen Daniel, Heights School Counselors Tandra Menefee and Jacqueline Blockson, Counseling Interns Seth Ungemach and Margo Murphy-Speight, teacher Nathan Williams, Success Coaches Shannon Kee and Sean Xavier Allen, and freshmen ambassadors Ian Bandy-Zalatoris, Melyssa Dittinger, and Ebrahim Esmail.
