Nov. 10, 2022 -- Nicole Zubik, a science teacher at Heights High School has been celebrated by her colleague, Dr. Melissa Strouth, for her exceptional work and the ways that she makes classes engaging and accessible to her students through the Teachers Honor Teachers Program. As a result of Dr. Strouth’s submission being selected, both teachers will be rewarded with $500 to use towards their classrooms for Ms. Zubik’s outstanding work and for Dr. Strouth honoring her fellow teacher’s excellence.
In her blog post, Strouth highlights that even after teaching for 20 years, she is amazed by Nicole’s ideas, instructional models, and her focus on providing professional development to the Heights High staff that centers around social-emotional learning and technology. She further celebrates Ms. Zubik for her advocacy to have equitable access to college-level coursework with her College Credit Plus Neuroscience course and her active recruitment for first-time AP students to enroll in her AP Biology class.
And Nicole Zubik’s students also see and acknowledge the love and enthusiasm that she has for teaching. “Students regularly talk about how much they appreciate her focus on actually learning science – true meaningful science,” Strouth writes. She further points out that students are grateful for the variety of ways they are able to not only learn difficult concepts but to also practice those concepts through labs, games, simulations, and chances to be creative.
