Board of Education Meeting Summary - December 19, 2023
Dec. 20, 2023 -- At the monthly regular Board of Education meeting on December 19, Delisle Options Center and Tiger Virtual Academy leaders presented information about the school’s PBIS and attendance incentives, Heights High students shared happenings at the school, and the Board heard the first reading of the proposed 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 District calendars.

The December 19 meeting was the final one for board members Jim Posch and Beverly Wright, whose terms end December 31. State Representative Juanita O. Brent presented them with resolutions recognizing their steadfast service. Posch and Wright both served on the Board of Education for eight years.

Meeting Overview
  • Heights High School senior Nia Baker and junior Darrian Baker delivered the Superintendent’s Student Cadre Report, sharing updates on Heights High news and personal reflections on the school year.
  • During each Regular Board of Education meeting, representatives from a CH-UH school share points of pride in the Monthly School Spotlight. For December, Dr. Brian Williams, Paul Gustafson, Kristin Campbell, and April White from the Delisle Options Center discussed the school’s incentive program for good attendance, which includes a partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as Tiger Virtual Academy’s PBIS program.
  • Superintendent Kirby shared updates on the past month’s work within the five goals of the District’s Strategic Plan.
  • The Board heard the first reading of the proposed 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 District calendars. Per Ohio law, there must be a 30-day period for public comment before the calendars can be officially approved by the Board of Education.
  • Chief Financial Officer Scott Gainer delivered his “3 Things” report, a monthly initiative to educate the community on school funding. The 3 Things for December were:
    • Sexennial Property Reappraisal
    • Homestead Exemption
    • Triennial Property Update
