Dec. 21, 2020 -- The Roxboro Middle School Academic Challenge team has risen to the challenge! The group of five 6th and 7th graders competed in a virtual tournament hosted by Copley on December 12, 2020 and finished second in their bracket with a 6 and 1 record. Even more impressive, 7th grader Gabe Mallamad earned the top score in the entire tournament, which included 23 teams from around Northeast Ohio.
The team, which is led by Rox Mid’s engineering teacher Amy Statler, meets virtually either after school or over the weekend. They used the chat feature on Google Meets to stay in touch throughout the tournament. Each of the seven matches they competed in consisted of 20 questions covering a wide variety of topics. Any of the team members were able to buzz in with the correct answer.
