May 6, 2025 -- At the monthly regular Board of Education meeting on May 5, the Superintendent and Board of Education recognized student winners of recent academic competitions, the Board approved a resolution in favor of the Fair School Funding Plan, and the Board approved the adoption of a new pre-kindergarten curriculum.

Regular Meeting Overview
Heights High School social studies teacher Patrick Fisher presented a recap of his class’s trip to Washington, D.C.
Nika Newsome, Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates Program Manager; Jasmin Martin, JOG Career Specialist Instructor; Molly Feghali, Director of PACE Training & Curriculum, and several Heights High students presented a recap of the Youth Career Olympics and the past school year’s accomplishments.
Superintendent Kirby shared updates on the past month’s work within the five goals of the District’s Strategic Plan.
Coordinator of Curriculum & Instruction Amanda Zapotechne and Early Childhood Specialist Danielle Foran presented additional findings from this year’s pilot of new pre-kindergarten curricular materials and the recommendation to adopt. The Board voted to approve the adoption of the materials.
Chief Financial Officer Scott Gainer presented information on the cash balance/carryover that school districts maintain. The current state budget bill includes a cap on these cash balances. Under this budget bill and its cash balance cap component, the CH-UH City School District stands to lose $6.6 million in funding over the next two years.
The Board voted to approve a resolution supporting the Fair School Funding Plan. The Board also voted to approve a resolution opposing caps on school district cash reserves.
