Heights High Arrival Procedures After Reopening of Cedar Road - April 2, 2025
April 2, 2025
Dear Heights High Staff, Families, and Students,
As many of you already know, Cedar Road has reopened, and all four lanes are available for use. With this change, we will be reverting back to our
original school entry plan that was shared in October. We are including that plan below to remind everyone of what to expect when we return to school after spring break on Monday, April 7th.
Please note that if your student does not have a student identification card, they are encouraged to come to the school on Thursday (4/3) and Friday (4/4) of this week between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to get a new one.
These procedures are outlined below.
Changes to Building Entry Procedures
- To reduce student wait time, the building will continue to open at 7:15 a.m. for student arrival. All students must undergo the weapon detection, bag screening, and ID badge scan each morning (see Screening Process section below).
- Any students without their IDs will be directed to the school administration, who will verify the student’s enrollment and attendance.
- Door Four, the main building door facing Cedar Rd, will again be the primary entrance from 7:15 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.
- Door One, located across from the baseball field, will be reserved for school buses and vans, staff, visitors, CTE students from other districts attending classes at CHHS from 7:15 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. Students who do not arrive by school bus or van or are not CTE students will not be permitted to enter through Door One until 9:00 a.m.
- The east parking lot, nearest the baseball fields, will only be accessible to staff and visitors.
- The west parking lot, nearest the football field, will be utilized for families who wish to drive up and drop off their students.
- All students who arrive after 9:00 a.m. will enter the building through Door One, sign in, and then proceed through the weapon detector and bag screening.
Daily Screening Process
- Upon entering the building, each student will scan their student ID to ensure they are enrolled and expected to be in class.
- Then, each student must place their bags onto the bag scanner conveyor belt and walk through the weapon detector.
- If neither the weapon detector nor the bag scanner is triggered, the student will proceed to their designated location.
- If the weapon detector or the bag scanner is triggered by something on a student’s person or in a student’s bag/purse, a security monitor will ask the student to step aside and perform an additional screening of the student and their bag/purse.
- Any prohibited items found during the search will be confiscated, and the student will be taken to an administrative office. Appropriate steps will then be taken in accordance with applicable school policies and procedures.
How to Prepare
- If your student does not have a student identification card, they are encouraged to come to the school on Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4 between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to get a new one.
- Please plan to arrive at school earlier than usual to give your child extra time in the morning to go through these screenings and arrive on time for class.
- Ensure no prohibited contraband items that are in violation of the Student Code of Conduct, including but not limited to firearms, pepper spray, mace, knives, weapons and weapon look-alikes, illegal drugs including tobacco and marijuana, drug paraphernalia, alcohol, vaping products, hazardous chemicals, obscene materials, gambling devices, and unauthorized electronics are on your child’s person or in their bag/purse.
In service of scholars,
Dr. Brandon Towns
